Life Update
So here I sit in my new office, able, for the first time in a long while, to freely access the internet without most of the sites being “off limits” due to stringent public sector firewalls . Today is my 10th day at the new job. I alternate between feeling completely overwhelmed and wondering whether I am a complete fraud who is soon going to be found out, and feeling pumped and excited about the future here.
The first two weeks have been busy. The company does a very thorough job of orientation. So I have met with no fewer than 5 people so far to discuss various issues such as timesheet and expense training; benefits overview; organization overview; project management/firm finances; library training, computer/VPN training etc. I still have a couple more orientation meetings set up for next week.
The guy I’m working most closely with here has also scheduled a number of meet and great meetings so he can introduce me to potential clients. And finally I went to Windsor last weekend through Monday to attend the CUTA conference and I presented on LEED for transit facilities. So it’s been a bit of a whirlwind, but it’s been good too. I like the people and I am pretty impressed with how well this company is run. It’s a tight ship here, but I see that as a good thing since we will all benefit from higher profits.
Okay, so enough about work.
Things at home are going well. Koda has adjusted well to our family and it seems like she’s always been with us. She is pretty rascally though and eats/chews whatever she can get hold of. So we need to learn to either close doors or to pick things up and put them away so she can’t get at them.
The kids rare doing well at school. Seb’s circle of friends is growing. Before he would only talk about Lily and sometimes Big Sebastian, but now it seems that he’s made a few more friends at school. CJ and I are going to see him in action next week. Every November, the JK teachers invite the parents to come and sit in the classroom and watch their child in class. I am looking forward to it. It should be fun. I think he’s doing really well with his writing and he is even learning to spell some words from kenzie.
Kenzie is doing well too. She seems much more confident this year and seems to have a good group of friends. She is doing great with her reading and writing. She has gotten involved in a number of activities including karate, gymnastics and choir. Her choir (Gr.’s 1 through 3) sang at the Remembrance Day Assembly on Tuesday and CJ and I got to see it. It was darling. I can’t wait for the Christmas recital.
So we are quickly heading in Christmas/birthday season. Kenzie wanted a Build-a-Bear party so we are doing that for her at the end of December. Sebby (unfortunately) wants a Chuck E Cheese Party. Thank goodness birthdays only happen once a year!
So there is a quick update on life to date.
