summertime!
Well it’s been a while since I blogged. I guess it’s because I’ve been kinda down in the dumps and who wants to write about why they are miserable.
I am trying to get myself out of that mindset so I will talk about some fun things.
First of all I worked from home on Friday. One of the things I appreciate most about this job is that ability to work from home or just to have a more flexible schedule. No more punching in and out. In any case I worked hard in the morning and then I walked over to the school and handed out the hot lunch (pizza day!) to Kenzie’s class. It always makes Kenzie happy when I go there so that makes me feel good. After that I met my mum for lunch. It was beautiful weather so we sat outside on the patio of a nearby Italian restaurant. After lunch we picked the kids up from school and headed back to our house. Mum and I sat outside on the patio while the kiddos played with the neighbourhood kids on the street. (can I say again how awesome it is to live on a cul de sac where there is hardly any car traffic).
Here they are – the kids loved the bowl of fresh cherries (first bunch of the season).
Look at their cherry-stained grins.
Koda has discoved the hose.
At about 5:30 we packed the kids into my mum’s car and she took them out for dinner and then back to her place for a sleepover. This gave CJ and I the opportunity to go out for a date. We hit up a new bar near our house and had some wings and drinks for dinner. We then came home and watched a movie. How perfect.
Saturday morning CJ got up super early to go mountain biking while I lazed in bed and slept in. (Luxury!). When he got home we had coffee in bed. (again, luxury!) Later in the morning Andrea came over with Jordana. It was Andrea’s birthday on Friday so I gave her, her birthday present. Jordana is so darn cute and she is such a happy baby too.
After Andrea left, CJ and I drove to Oakville to pick up the kiddos. We hung out at my mums for a while, and then came home, went for a walk and had a barbeque dinner. It was a great day.
Yesterday was another wonderful day. The weather was perfect. mid-20’s, hardly a cloud in the sky. The morning was spent running errands (including getting Kenzie some soccer shoes. Her first game of the season is tonight). Then they kids put on their soccer shin pads, soccer socks and cleats and we went to the park to play soccer. That only lasted about 3 minutes before Kenzie was in tears because she couldn’t kick it as far as Seb and Seb was in tears because he didn’t get to keep the ball to himself the whole time… All of a sudden I see 3 little people running down the hill towards us. It was like God had heard my prayer and sent the Bishop girls. Kenzie immediately perked up cause Zoe was there and Seb was thrilled to have his “girlfriend Lilly” there. So we marched up the hill and the kids all played at the playground while Rich, CJ and I sat on the boulders soaking in the sun and watching the kids play.
After a late lunch we met up with Helen and the kids at a new water park/play ground. The kids had a blast running through the water and playing with each other. I love seeing them play outside. It was such a long cold winter and we were couped up inside for so long that I am appreciative of every minute we get that the kids can be outside and playing. And it’s showing – despite putting sun screen on them, they are both getting that sun-kissed/summer glow/tan.
CJ had to leave early to go play baseball so Helen and I took the brood (5 kids) to a new restaurant (Turtle jacks) for dinner and margaritas (Helen and I, not the kids). Then it was time to go home and do the homework that the kids avoided all weekend. Soon after they finished their homework CJ came home and took them outside to play street hockey. Kenzie decided she needed her soccer shoes for that….
And that was our weekend. Two-day weekends are way too short. I am going to start taking advantage of our summertime “Fridays off” policy.
