GO HABS!

Last night the family went for our weekly dinner at Wild Wings. It was a big night for us. The Leafs were playing the Habs (Canadiens) – note they are both fighting for a playoff spot. I wore my Habs jersey and CJ wore his Leafs jersey. When we walked in the bartender asked us if there was going to be a fight tonight. We promised her we’d behave. I convinced Seb to route for the Habs (he’s a smart kid – very advanced) but Kenzie was stubborn and routed for the Leafs. She even went so far as to say that my team was “stinky”. WELL! I never…. “Listen here missy, if you want to route for the LOSING team, that’s fine with me”. GO HABS!!

mid-weekend update

So the past few days I’ve been on a bit of a roller coaster. I’m getting pretty stressed about work. I have so little to do and I can’t stand doing nothing. I can’t even write a paper for a conference or study for some sort of certification because a) I haven’t “managed” any of my own projects lately to write about and b) I can’t think of anything to study for. I have written so many proposals lately and I just NEED a win. I need one little win. I need to manage a project and feel like I have some responsibility and a purpose.

Anyhow, enough about that.

So far our weekend has been fairly good. Curling last night was a lot of fun. Especially since CJ and I were responsible for our come from behind win. Today we started off the day by going to a place called Reptilia with CJ’s buddy, Richard, and his kiddos. It was pretty darn cool. I was especially pleased to discover that our kids are not the only ones who pick their noses. Ha ha ha. Here are some pics.

Afterwards we all went out for lunch. I was pretty happy with how well the kids behaved.

When we got home it was one of those occasions when all the stars aligned and we were all able to have afternoon naps. When we woke up the kids tore the house apart playing “airport” and CJ and I watched curling. This is appalling.

feb24 019

This was followed by the kids drawing pictures while the CJ and I made dinner. Kenzie drew this. I am amazed every day by how much and how quickly she is learning. It really is incredible how much the brain is able to absorb. CJ and I are so proud of her.

Over dinner CJ and I reminisced about the days when we lived together in an apartment in the Magnolia neighborhood in Seattle. I have really fond memories of those days. We would go to work in the morning stopping at our local starbucks where they knew our order (triple Americano black, double Americano cream and twin), in the afternoon we’d meet for a drink and a few smokes at Mulleady’s where the owner Dave knew us well (he also knew our drink orders). Then we’d hang out at the apartment; drink a bottle of wine on the balcony while we grilled up some steaks. Then we’d watch baseball and relax. The weekends were full of hanging with friends, band gigs, drinking, smoking, and leading a life of debauchery. Then when we moved to Kirkland life was just as amazing only we’d meet our friend for drinks & smokes EVERY night, we enjoyed pub trivia, house parties, and holidays with friends! Damn…. I would love to be back there for a few days. Only about 16 more years….

Okay… enough of that.

So right now I am going to focus on the good things. Our two fabulous kids who make us laugh (e.g. Kenzie running around butt naked with underwear on her head), and CJ, the love of my life who I adore. The fact that we get so much more time to spend with each other now that Omi takes the kids for us. For example, our potential weekend away for our upcoming anniversary. The adventure of living in a new place and growing new roots. CJ’s cool new job. The fact that I really like my new coworkers. Spending time with family and having the kids really know their grandparents, aunts and uncles.

So there you go. That’s the half-time weekend update.

growing up too fast

I was looking at some old photos today of the kids. I can’t believe how quickly they are growing up. I think of them both as such little kids, but then I see these pics and realize that they are so much bigger than they used to be. I miss this time so much. My sister better hurry up and have a baby so I have a little one to love on.

yawn

I’m so tired.
I am going to my first crop in a week and a half. I think it’ll be fun.
What am I going to put all my scrapbooking stuff in?
The curling bon spiel was so fun on the weekend. I love curling.
I hope the kids are good after work today. Seb was a poop yesterday and I can’t handle that again today.
I wonder if we’ll win the job that I just prepared the proposal for.
How am I ever going to learn to skate if I have to keep my boots on so I can help the kids?
I wonder if we’ll win this job in WA. Then I’d get some free trips to Seattle in. How perfect.
I can’t believe how much money I spent at Boden.
I wonder if I’ll get any money back from my taxes (in Canada or the US)
It’s so warm out today. Ha… I now think that 4 degrees C is warm.

friends

okay I'm feeling really sad. I miss my Seattle friends so much. I was just lieing in bed thinking about this camping trip in the summer. It won't be like our Seattle camping trips. In Seattle, when we were with friends, we were with family. We could be ourselves. It was not a matter of "do these people like us"... we knew they LOVED us. I miss them. I miss telling them I love them. I miss sharing jokes and memories. I miss teasing them and being teased. I miss the company and comraderie.

Today is our buddy's birthday. I miss him. I wish I could give him a hug and say happy birthday in person.

Rigth now, I wish we were still living on 117th Pl NE, Kirkland, WA.

friends and camping

I was sick this week. Just a cold I think but I felt like crap. On Thursday CJ and I both took the day off (although I spent most of it working from home). It was still nice not to go into the office. I did get some scrapbooking done – I finished a baby album for a friend of mine. You can see the final pages here if you are interested. I’m pretty happy with it.

On Friday I had to go to the office because I had a proposal due. It sucked being in there but I gutted through it and got everything done by about 12:30.My mum picked up the kids from daycare in the morning and took them back to her place so I had the afternoon to myself. It was heaven. I did some scrapbooking and then Andrea came over and we watched a movie together – Little Miss Sunshine. What a super great movie.

In the evening I caught up on some TV shows – WTF was up with Grey’s Anatomy this week. You can’t leave people hanging like that. Grrrrr. CJ went out with some buddies after work and they went to a studio and played music and had fun. It made me very happy that he has people to play music with here.

On Saturday CJ and I slept in – wonderful!! In the afternoon mum brought the kids back and joined us and our friends (the only ones we have in Toronto - Brian and Sue) for dinner. WE actually made a full-on turkey dinner and it was so easy.

It was really fun. I love when we get together. Their girls love our kiddos and basically baby-sit for us the whole night so we can have adult conversation.

At one point CJ and Brian got out the guitars and started playing. Brian’s daughter Shannon is learning how to play too. It was pretty cool watching them all. Sue even jumped in their and started singing.

Sebby totally has a crush on Rachel. And she adores him. So cute.

Brian & Sue also invited us to join them and a bunch of their friends for a 4 day camping trip at the beginning of July. I am really excited about it. There will be 7 families and a zillion kids. We have friends here! We really do – and they like us. HA!

Today it’s really cold out so we decided to have an indoor day. We put the tent up in the living room and have been playing in there. The kids and I also made some cookies. Mmm mmm mmm.

I am not looking forward to work tomorrow. I am still feeling a bit under the weather and the weekend went by so fast. Oh well – we’ll have another weekend in 5 days.

One long fun day....

The ROM

Wow. Is the weekend over already? I don’t even remember what we did on Saturday – it just kinda came and went (oh – I do remember getting some more fish though, including 2 new really neat white angel fish). I LOVE our tank. It has provided so much enjoyment since we got it. FUN.

So yesterday my mum suggested that we take the kids to the ROM (Royal Ontario Museum). I really wasn’t expecting much. I thought it would be a bunch of boring exhibits and that the kids would be loud and wild and I would get stressed. I was so wrong. The ROM has an amazing floor that basically dedicated to kids and hands-on exploration. Sebastian was so darn excited. He LOVED everything. I was actually really impressed by his attention span. He would spend a really long time at each of the exhibits that caught his interest. Like the microscope…

They also had all kinds of costumes for the kids to try on…
Check out Omi’s face… ha ha ha

They also had a bunch of hands-on things activities like making these fossil prints.

CJ’s favorite part was looking at all the animal body bits that had been preserved in bottles…

SUPERBOWL

So when we were at the ROM I got a call from my friend Kat. She suggested getting together to watch the game! How perfect. That would be fun for the kids and for CJ and I too. So shortly before the game she and her darling boys came over. It was so fun. The kids occupied each other (Mackenzie is quite taken with Mitchell… she even mentioned him in her thankfuls last night - “and I am thankful for my boyfriend Mitchell…”) and the adults got to enjoy some conversation and some football watching. Unfortunately our oven decided to die about 10 minutes before game time. Luckily our old friend Wild Wings came through for us again!

feb4 042

Sebby and Evan had a really good time (once Sebastian got over his fear of sharing). At one point they were upstairs and things got a bit quiet. I knew they’d be up to something. I think I need to put a lock on my scrapbooking room door. Don’t they look guilty?

feb4 049

okay, either Seb has a crush on Evan or he’s checking out Kat’s butt.

So handsome.
