Proud parents

For the last few days I’ve been feeling really off. Like headachy and nauseous (and no, I’m not pregnant!!). So I am panicking a bit and I keep thinking that I probably have some terminal illness and it’s becoming huge in my mind and I am too scared to go to the doctor (I’m usually not such a hypochondriac. Really).

Yesterday Kenzie and I went to her school’s monthly assembly. She was selected as student of the month this month for demonstrating the character trait “Initiative”. We are very very proud of her. So she received her award/certificate yesterday morning. I was so happy that I was there to see her get her award – last year I had a meeting and wasn’t able to go. Her good friend Sophie who is in grade 1 also got selected as student of the month so it was great that they were there together.

Her teacher giving her the certificate. I love Mrs Harrison – she is so sweet and so good to Kenzie. I think Mrs. H and I could be friends. She’s got two little girls and she and I love talking about cute clothes and other kid stuff. I’m glad Kenzie has had two great teachers in the last couple years.

Also at the assembly I did a presentation to all the kids in Kenzie’s school – all 650 of them and most of the 60 staff members. I was awake almost all night Thursday night worrying about it. I was nervous and worried that the kids would hate it. I am the chair of the Health, Safety and Environmental committee at the school and we are trying to raise funds for an outdoor classroom and renaturalization project. So as part of that I’m organizing an eco-product fundraiser. I had a video about the environment and I did some interactive speaking, gave out some prizes etc. The kids seemed to really enjoy it and they all yelled “awww” when I said I was done. So that made me feel so good. But I was totally exhausted from the stress of it all afterwards.

Here’s Kenzie when we first got there and I was setting up (check out her adorable rain boots).

So not to be outdone by his sister, Sebastian came home yesterday with his own certificate. He got Star of the Week at daycare for listening so well. Now Sebastian is not the greatest listener so this is a huge achievement for him. We are very proud of both our kiddos.

Happy Easter

It’s almost the end of March… it’s 11-1/2 days and 8-1/2 work days until CJ and I go on our child-free, all you can eat/drink/sleep vacation to the Dominican. I think both of us are EXTREMELY excited – that is an understatement.

Yesterday CJ and I celebrated our 6th Anniversary! On one hand I feel like the time has just flown by. On the other hand we have done SO MUCH! Most importantly….. we made two amazing little people. CJ, I love you more today than ever. I love you more and more each day. I think you are an amazing person and I am so, so, so lucky that you chose me. Thank you for everything you are and everything you do.

So….. I can’t say that we have been doing too much exciting lately but we sure seem busy. I planned a surprise shower for Andrea and it took place on Saturday. I think it was a total success. She was completely surprised, AND happy. I was worried that she wouldn’t enjoy it because she had always said “I don’t want a shower”… but I just thought that she needed one. This will probably be her only child so she needs to celebrate. She is adorable. She is skinny as ever but she has a perfectly round little soccer ball belly. It’s so cute. Yesterday I put my hand on her belly and the baby gave me a big kick. I jumped! It was great. I made a scrapbook for Andrea. It was definitely a labor of love. I took pics of some of the pages if you are interested. Unfortunately her and Chris’s reaction to it was kind of luke-warm (I don’t think they even looked at more than the first 4 pages). I was a bit disappointed, but what can you do. I still enjoyed making it and hopefully they will pictures in it (if they don’t, I will) and hopefully my niece will enjoy looking at it when she’s a bit older.

Yesterday we went to my mom’s house for Easter dinner. As much as I love entertaining, I certainly appreciate going to someone else’s house. My mum has been so great lately. The week before last was March break. Mum ended up taking the kids all week – at first for a couple days of adventures, but then later she kept them longer cause they were sick and needed some Omi-love and pampering. It was great for CJ and I on many levels… we got some much needed rest, we knew they were well taken care of, and we didn’t use up all our vacation time staying home with sick kids. Mum also took the kids last Friday to give me a day to finish the scrapbook and make these little shower favor tags.

She and my dad (who is in town visiting for Andrea’s shower and for Easter) took the kiddos to Disney on Ice this morning and then back to mum’s house for naps and dinner. It’s nice cause I was able to get the house tidied up a bit (our house is a total sty about 5 minutes after the kids walk in). It’s horrible.

Any how. That’s about it for our news.

p.s. Happy Birthday Steve! I hope you had a good birthday. Wish I could have been at your party!

10 reasons it was a fun day

1. The kids slept in until almost 8:00 am.

2. I decided not to diet today.

3. The kids and I made lemon cranberry muffins and chocolate chip cookies for breakfast.

4. We all played in the snow while CJ shoveled.

5. We went to Helen and Dave's for a playdate.

6. Helen and I drank coolers, talked (made plans to take over school council next year), did crafts with the kids, danced, and watched the kids (generally) play well together.

CJ had to leave to go get his eyes checked. Then he went home to shovel the driveway for the 3rd time today because we are in the middle of one of the biggest snowstorms in years.

7. Dave picked CJ up on his way home (from his parents house - Dave had gone to shovel his parents driveway) cause CJ’s car doesn’t do so well in 2 feet of fresh snow and CJ had barely made it home.

8. They picked up pizza and cheese sticks on the way back. WE all enjoyed a yummy dinner together.

9. We all made plans to go out to next Friday night (reminder – must get babysitter) – the plan is to go to a local pub to listen to Dave’s brothers band. It’s an Open Mic deal so hopefully CJ and Brian will go up and play too.

10. After spending almost 6 hours at the Woods, we decided to head home. I’m glad we made it home safely (we had to stop on the way home and CJ had to push a guy out of our street cause he was stuck). They obviously haven’t come to clear our neighborhood for a few hours since there’s still about a foot of snow on the streets).
Just took this picture from our front door.

what a strange evening

This evening has been really strange. It started off pretty normally. We all got up from naps (or at least rests) and then eventually came to the kitchen to have some dinner. After dinner CJ brought his guitar out and started playing some songs. Soon Kenzie, Sebby and I were all dancing around and singing. We turned most of the lights off and swung our light wands around. Then we brought out the instruments and danced and played the drums and tambourine and spoons etc. Soon my head was filled with memories of dancing and singing to Cousin Phil.

It was a strange feeling. Very nostalgic and missing the "old days" but also so filled with love for my family.
