is this my mid-life crisis?

I thought I was too young for this, but lately I am seriously starting to think I am going through a midlife crisis. I feel unsettled, emotional, and basically,,,, a mess. So... I apologize to my friends who I have been neglecting... Dawn, Karen, JL - I am sorry I have been so self-absorbed and distracted lately. I am trying to get back on an even keel.

Thank you to Amy. I appreciate your friendship, compassion and understanding.

And thank goodness for my family. Today was a good day for me. CJ, thanks for being there for me. For your hugs and for always making me laugh. It was a refreshing day. I was able to let go of a lot of stress from work and just have fun with the kids. The day started with Kenzie and I going to the store to buy supplies for her hot dog party tomorrow. We have been talking about having a hot dog party since we first read the "Don't let the pigeon stay up late" book. I am psyched that tomorrow it's going to happen.

After we came home I was able to have a good chat with my friend Erin who made me laugh and feel like "all was right with the world" again.

After Seb woke from his nap we did some fingerpainting. It was hilarious. It's good when you just let go and not worry about your kitchen floor. That's when the fun begins.

After naps I was able to visit my friend Ursula and meet new baby boy Fiarchra. He is darling and slept teh whole time so we could actually ahve a chat.

Tonight CJ and the kids and I just hung out and played and had fun. I gotta say... playdoh rocks. We've been playing with play doh for two years now and I still love it.

It got much better

Okay after my little bitch last night (it was well internalized, really, I didn't flip on the kids for making french soup and wanting pot. ... er, "a" pot)

anyhow. a glass of wine helped me put things into perspective. Kenzie had fun playing with water at the sink and Sebby had fun tearing around like a mad-man.

Then we went downstairs and had lots of fun with a ball and tickling each other. Imagine "tickle-monkey-in-the middle".

After, I was treated to a private concert from The Ingram Family band. All's well that end's well.

piss off

you know what ... I'm in a crappy mood. Everyone around me is pissing me off. Even Sebby. I mean really. stop being such a damn whiney baby. You want a pot? Get your own damn pot. The fact that you can't get it out of the cupboard is really no reason to have a total meltdown. I mean really... suck it up. And Mackenzie... can you dawdle anymore? It drives me insane. Oh, you're making "french soup"... wtf is french soup.

where are you from

Note: I used a "template" to write the following. The template can be found at this blog site. You should all try it. It's fun. And it certainly made me a rather nostalgic.

I am from catching minnows in the creek, from swimming pools in every backyard, from playing hide and seek long after the sun had gone down, from chasing the ice cream "bicycle", from long car rides to the cottage.

I am from hot chocolate after a day of cross-country skiing, from making apple crisp with rosy cheeks upon the return home.

I am from geranium trees by the front door, from the vegetable garden along the side of the house, from the prickly raspberry bushes along the fence, and from the playhouse built by dad and enhanced with paintings of Mickey and Minnie Mouse.

I am from fondue on Christmas Eve, from champagne brunches on summer Sunday's. I'm from 'mum and dad' and Aunt Maria and Omi Bonn and cousin Sean.

I am from the worriers and givers, from the over achievers and under-believers.

I am from the catholics, the newborn Christians, and am now with the roughened believers in God.

I'm from Canada, I am from Germany. From gulash and roladen, from spetzle and vanilla gipfeln, from dinner at lunchtime, and fruit torten.

From the flying chickens on the walls, the poor overheated dead frogs, and the 35 year old college student, mother with a full time job.

I am from love, and agression, and compassion and need.

the spoon

don't you think it would be more appropriate for a spoon to be shaped more like a ladle? You know, to have a deeper bowl to it? The only thing a spoon is really useful for is to bring liquid to your mouth. If the food in question is thicker, like pudding for instance, I'd rather use something that looks like a flat spoon, because it would be easier to get all the food off it and into my mouth. For liquids though a spoon is a terrible design. You have to be so careful bringing the spoon to your mouth. If you don't pay attention and concentrate, you get the spoon to your mouth and there is nothing left in it. It's simply poor engineering if you ask me.

Charles and Sam, thanks so much for having us over today. We all had a blast. And I am so so envious of your backyard. It is the exact back yard that I want.

Here are some pictures from the afternoon.

Enchanted

Oh My Goodness. I am so overwhelmed right now. Tonight was the THE BEST experience I have had with Mackenzie EVER. I mean, since she was born, tonight tops all other experiences I've had with her. It was that incredible.

I was actually quite concerned beforehand. I worried about how she would react to the loud music or the "heavier scenes" (like when the evil witch casts the spell). I thought she'd be scared and want to go home. I worried for nothing.

Kenzie absolutely LOVED it. I had a hard time watching the ballet because I just wanted to stare at her all night. She was "enchanted"! Seriously, she sat there wide-eyed throughout. She was also the first to clap after every dance. When the prince kissed sleeping beauty, Kenzie shook with excitement (I felt her)!

I wish I was a better writer so I could describe how wonderful it was. At least we will always have our memories from tonight. We are both super excited for our next ballet.

I got a present today

CJ got up with the kids this morning and let me stay in bed. Then about 20 minutes ago he took them to the store to get the essentials (milk, bread etc). What a luxurious way for me to wake up. I am going to make a pot of coffee now and then take a relaxing shower.

and you know what? This isn't even unusual for CJ. He does this stuff for me/for us ALL THE TIME!

CJ, I love you, and appreciate all the things you do.

Tonight Kenzie and I are going to the ballet (to see Sleeping Beauty). It's the first time she's gone. We have amazing seats (front row center in the first balcony). I REALLY hope she has a great time. I know she might be overwhelmed but I just hope I can get her to stick out the first 5 minutes cause I know she'll love it after that. We are meeting up with our friends Ellen and Katrina and having some dinner before hand. What an awesome evening!

I am a criminal

I broke the law. I used the HOV lane yesterday and I was the only person in the car.

I am wracked with guilt today. Someone turn me in.

p.s. Thanks Missy, now that I reread that it totally didn'y make sense.

to all my fans

I am so sorry for not posting more lately. HA!

My excuse? I'm burnt out. I mean super tired! There is a reason people sleep. It's hard to function without it... or even with too little of it.

a few things to note from the past few days.

1. I had a bgreat time in Knoxville TN. I met some really great poeple. Hit it off with lots and was pleasantly surprised at how cool most people were.

2. I've been super busy at work. The days are flying by, but I'm sure tired. I also feel like I'm on the verge of losing control of the projects I'm supposed to be managing. (you know, you don't even have time to enter into Outlook, the tasks you just agreed to take on, before the phone rings again and there's another fire to put out)

3. Tomorrow is another busy day. I'm not prepared but too tired to worry about it now. I guess I'll be getting up early again.

4. Tomorrow night, after a day full of meetings and presentations, CJ and I are going out together! I CAN NOT WAIT!

here is a funny picture I took tonight of our little white shoed sissy boy! (HE wanted to put these on... I swear!)

and here's the boo. Cute as a button. As always.

I find it odd...

that when I buy a new top I have to get an accessory (scarf, shoes, whatever) to go with it. The accessory usually costs twice as much as the original purchase.

weekly update

so last week at work was another week at work.. nothing too exciting to talk about.

Let's jump to the weekend.

On Friday night, Kristin and Montana came over. We enjoyed some pizza, salad, ice cream and strawberries (to which Sebby had an allergic reaction - what is it with our kids and allergies?! thank goodness his reaction wasn't as bad as Kenzie's peanut one). CJ had the excellent idea to shave his head. Here he is afterwards. I think he looks like a hotty!

DSCN2213

On Saturday, Kenzie and I went to the mall in the morning while Seb was napping. (meanwhile CJ cleaned out the garage and it looks fabulous). Kenzie and I bought a few gifts and she even sat with the Easter bunny to get her picture taken. She was quite excited when afterwards the Easter bunny's assistant gave her a stuffed bunny and a chocolate bunny to take home with her.

Yesterday we went to Gregory's baptism. He did so well - didn't even cry when the water was poured over his head. and he looked so darn cute. God bless you Gregory! (and DW, I am not even going to post a picture of you guys - see I am thoughtful like that!)

After the service we all went to D&D's place for a barbeque party. We had a blast.

I LOVE this picture.

After the party we came home for naps. Woke up after 6:00 (new time). That totally threw me for a loop. I felt all unsettlld cause of the time. Anyhow, so at 8:00 pm, we were winding down getting ready for bed, watching TV (Food Network). The show we were watching highlighted fried ice cream. I told CJ I had never had that. So we decided to go have some right there and then. We got dressed and headed over to Las Margaritas.

I have to say, that Corona totally hit the spot and the kids loved the ice cream.

Here's to mixing parenting with pleasure! Cheers!
